40 local leaders make a commitment to a more equitable Boston

On November 13, 2019, forty leaders gathered with their friends, family members, and colleagues to celebrate the LeadBoston Class of 2019 graduation. Over the last ten months, the Class of 2019 has met monthly to develop inclusive leadership and communication skills, strengthen their networks, explore socioeconomic realities of Boston, and devise innovative solutions to inequity. As recent graduates, the Class of 2019 joins the LeadBoston alumni network—a web of over 1,000 local leaders from all sectors who are committed to addressing barriers to inclusion within their communities and organizations. Following the program, attendees enjoyed a wonderful reception provided by host Mintz at One Financial Center.
As Kathryn Henderson, YW Boston’s VP of Strategic Partnerships and LeadBoston Class of 2011 alumna, shared with the group, “LeadBoston graduation is both an ending and a beginning. While the class year comes to a close, graduates now join an alumni community 28-years-old and over 1,000 members strong.”
In addition to congratulatory comments from staff and a presentation of certificates, class-elected speaker Thaddeus Miles inspired the audience with a reflection on the class’ year together and the impact they can make moving forward. Catch the graduation speech below:
