Introducing YW Boston’s 2020 Census Toolkit

YW Boston is proud to serve on the Boston Counts 2020 committee and to partner with the Alliance of YWCAs in Massachusetts as we work to make sure everyone is counted in the 2020 Census. We know that communities of color are routinely undercounted. This impacts all areas of American life, including the distribution of education resources, infrastructure planning, and legislative redistricting. We must ensure a complete count in order to see through our goal of creating more equitable communities. Learn more about why the census is important in our previous blog post, “Help us reach a complete count.”

We are proud to be one of the many organizations, including government, non-profit, and private institutions, who are helping spread the word about the importance of the Census. We know it may seem like there is an overwhelming number of resources: flyers, PSAs, toolkits, videos, and more. We also know that it can be particularly difficult to parse through these resources in light of COVID-19. As the census moves online and while we are social distancing, we encourage people to fill out the census digitally. This will make filling out the census easier for some, and more difficult for those who may not have access to the digital census. Thankfully, there are a number of options for filling out the census in a safe way.

To help you work through this information, we have created our own 2020 Census Toolkit. We hope this curated resource guide will support you as a partner as you encourage your employees, volunteers, clients, and fellow community members to be counted.

About YW Boston

As the first YWCA in the nation, YW Boston has been at the forefront of advancing equity for over 150 years. Through our DE&I services—InclusionBoston and LeadBoston—as well as our advocacy work and youth programming, we help individuals and organizations change policies, practices, attitudes, and behaviors with a goal of creating more inclusive environments where women, people of color, and especially women of color can succeed.
