LeadBoston can strengthen your journey towards inclusive leadership — here’s how.
The City of Boston requires proactive leadership working to create a more equitable tomorrow. YW Boston’s LeadBoston program helps mid- to senior- level professionals acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to help their organizations harness the power of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
LeadBoston is designed to provide participants a foundation, and increased knowledge, of DEI-centered language and concepts. Together with professionals across various sectors, leaders have the opportunity to learn about topics from Class & Poverty to Housing & Transportation within a DEI framework. Across the 11-month program they’ll hear from expert speakers and participate in facilitated peer discussion gaining insight into how these topics intersect with the City of Boston.
Developing relationships across a diverse 40-50 member leadership cohort is an important aspect of LeadBoston. The program works to develop participants’ bonds and their network as they learn together. In addition, leaders will also be able to network with a group of more than 1,000 program alumni from over 30 years and from various professions around the city.
The LeadBoston program supports each individual participant as they develop and implement a leadership commitment, an action plan that confronts some of the systemic inequities they’ve learned about and that are showing up in their organization. This plan, and the collective LeadBoston experience, allows leaders to be able to create meaningful change in their workspaces, in their communities, and in the city of Boston itself. Staff work alongside alums for a year following the program, to ensure participants have what they need to see their plan through.
For an in-depth look at the program please check out our new LeadBoston introduction video. Here, you’ll be able to gain an overview of the program from Rachael McCoy, Senior LeadBoston Manager, and Samuel Ellison, Manager of Partnerships. You’ll also hear personal LeadBoston experiences from a few of our program alumni – what drew them to the program, what lessons they took back to their workspaces and some of their favorite memories. This video provides a comprehensive look at LeadBoston and why its invaluable to helping bring DEI to leaders and organizations throughout Boston.
